First Aid for Young People

We can run first aid training aimed specifically at young people. Both courses stated below can be incorporated into a residential or DofE training residential at Thornbridge Outdoors or delivered at a venue of your choice.

Heartstart

Heartstart UK is an initiative co-ordinated by the British Heart Foundation to teach members of the public what to do in a life-threatening emergency: simple skills that can save lives.

Participants receive 2 hours of hands on first aid training using demonstrations, video footage, treating each other and practising on resuscitation manikins.

Course Content

The course covers:

  • helping an unconscious casualty
  • performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • dealing with choking
  • dealing with serious bleeding
  • helping someone that may be having a heart attack

Who Should Attend?

The course is suitable for people aged 10 years old and above, and participants receive a certificate of attendance and an emergency life support booklet.

The course can be incorporated into a group’s visit to Thornbridge Outdoors or delivered at a venue of your choice.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Expedition First Aid Training

Thornbridge Outdoors offers a half day of first aid and emergency procedures that covers the syllabus of the DofE Expedition Frameworks. The course includes the Heartstart programme as detailed above, with an additional session that covers the rest of the DofE syllabus.

Did you know? Back in December 1975, the very last teacher training class took place at Thornbridge Hall Training College in what we now know as the Base Camp dining room.

Fast forward 50 years and 2026 will be our 50th year as an education centre dedicated to inspiring young people!
